Welcome to South Gables Dental from Dr. Lawrence Lesperance

Welcome to South Gables Dental!
And thanks for reading our first blog. While brand new to blogging, I’m not new to being a dentist in Coral Gables and have been practicing in South Florida since 1997.
Why start blogging now, you may ask? The team at South Gables Dental frequently hears that this doesn’t feel like a dental office, but rather like visiting friends and family. And that perception is not only felt by our staff but our patients too. We’ve worked hard to cultivate that culture over the years, so I thought that I would introduce myself and our dental practice so you can know us better.
A Little About Me
My name is Lawrence Lesperance, and I am a proud Miami native born and raised. I attended Christopher Columbus High School, then graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Brown University, where I played football and rugby. I earned my dental degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Missing my home state, I completed a one year general practice residency in advanced dentistry at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fl. After residency I practiced as an associate with Menegay and Sims, DDS, PA, in South Miami for seven years until I opened my own practice in South Miami. We’ve served the community from our present location in Coral Gables since 2006.
Personally, I live life to its fullest, making every day count. By eating well and working out, we can take control of our own destinies. As a biologist, I’m well aware of the power of genetics, but we need to do what we can to ensure optimum physical and mental health. And if that means enjoying a root beer float every now and then to calm your soul, so be it! I had an amazing one at Howley’s in West Palm Beach during a recent road trip. If you’re ever in the area, this 1950’s diner is worth the stop.
Our Philosophy
I love being a dentist. Since I was a child, I had a love for biology. I always felt amazed at the beauty and science of how animals and plants lived and grew and all of the biological processes that went on behind the scenes. We always had a dog, truly man’s best friend, and I marveled at their athleticism. In high school, I took advanced biology courses and eventually narrowed my studies in college to the human body. At Brown University, I majored in biology and had the privilege of studying with many of the country’s leading biologists in their respective fields, subjects from genetics to physiology.
Part of my decision to become a dentist was discovering the true blend of both the art and science involved in helping restore someone’s teeth. The mouth can be a truly hostile environment with extreme temperature changes from hot coffee and soup to frozen drinks and ice cream. Yum! Also grinding and chewing involve tremendous forces, which can eventually wear the enamel away over time. Believe it or not, enamel is actually harder than bone. The Masseter muscles (cheeks) are pound for pound the strongest muscles in our body! So we as dentists are asked to repair people’s teeth and make them last a lifetime while making them aesthetically beautiful. No small task! Therein lies the challenging combination of art and science for which we train. Bring it on!
These ideals permeate our practice’s culture and we hire individuals who also embody these same passions and appreciations. How does that help you? The dental professionals at South Gables Dental have always practiced quality, personalized dentistry, never in a clinic environment, stressing quality over quantity. We have further advanced our dental expertise by taking hundreds of hours of advanced courses from world-renowned facilities such as the Pankey Institute and The Dawson Academy.
Why? To fulfill our mission to provide best in class service in an ethical, efficient, and friendly manner.
That’s enough for now, but I hope you’ll return to learn more about how a healthy mouth can lead to a happy and healthy life, suggestions on how to adopt a healthy lifestyle and more. Plus, we hope you’ll join our social community on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. And if you find yourself in our neighborhood, please stop in for a cup of coffee. We hope to see you soon.
